Ready to take your pieces to the next level? In this hands-on, fast-paced class, we’re diving into the details. You’ll explore a whole range of dynamic surface decoration techniques—including sgraffito, mishima, carving, underglaze painting, and creating your own stencils and image transfers. Taught by Sandra and Andrea! We’ve structured this five-week session to give you a great rhythm between making and decorating: Weeks 1 & 3 (July 15 & July 29): We focus entirely on throwing and handbuilding your forms. Weeks 2 & 4 (July 22 & August 5): The fun part. We dedicate these sessions to experimenting with surface design techniques on your leather-hard pieces. Week 5 (August 12): We use this final session for extra studio time to refine and bring all your work to completion. Studio Pro-Tip: To get the absolute most out of this course, we highly encourage you to swing by during our Sunday open studio hours. Building up a strong inventory of forms on Sundays ensures you’ll have plenty of blank canvases ready to go for the decoration weeks! Requirements / Prerequisites Before you book: Students need to have completed at least one multi-week class at Studio Hudson or another studio and feel completely comfortable centering, trimming, and glazing on their own. Important Attendance Note Because of the back-and-forth flow between making and decorating, missing a class means missing crucial, sequential instruction. Please double-check your calendar and make sure you are available for all five class dates before registering. Cancellation & Rescheduling Drop-in Workshops (one-session classes) Cancel 72+ hours before: full studio credit Cancel 24-72 hours before: 50% studio credit Cancel less than 24 hours or no-show: forfeit Multi-Week Courses Cancel 7+ days before the first session: full studio credit Cancel less than 7 days before the first session: 50% studio credit Once the course has started: no credit for missed or remaining sessions Private Workshops Cancel 14+ days before: full studio credit Cancel 7-14 days before: 50% studio credit Cancel less than 7 days before or no-show: forfeit Group size can be reduced up to 7 days before the event; reductions inside 7 days will not change the price Sunday Open Studio Non-refundable and non-reschedulable. This keeps seats available for students who can attend. Studio credits are valid for 12 months and can be used toward any class, workshop, or private session. If we cancel If Studio Hudson cancels or reschedules a class, you'll receive a full refund to your original payment method, or you can move to another available date — your choice.
